Infrastructure : LTMMC is a government college, so it would be silly to expect out-of-the-world amenities and whatnot. But the infrastructure is certainly improving. Most classes are conducted in the new building. The laboratories are quite clean and well maintained, and the equipment in them actually works. The air conditioned library is quite big, and has enough books for the students. The college also has a tiny ground for sports, but you’ll hardly ever find anyone there.As far as the hostels are concerned, the previously abject situation is getting better. There’s still no hostel facility for first year students, who have to make their own arrangements. After this, the girls hostel is in TB Hospital in Sewri, while the boys hostel is near the Urban Health Centre in Dharavi. However, the new senior hostel is in the campus itself. Malda Medical College and Hospital medical college run by the government of West Bengal in Malda, West Bengal. It is permitted by the Medical Council of India and affiliated under West Bengal University of Health Sciences. It admits students through a common admission test conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Board of West Bengal. The college was established in 2011. The Government of West Bengal decided to set up a new medical college at the strategically located district of Malda,which is easily accessible to the districts in the region of North Bengal. The Letter of Permission was received by the Authority of Malda Medical College and Hospital from the Medical Council of India on June 30, 2011 and classes commenced on August 1, 2011 Malda Medical College and Hospital has a shocking infant death rate in last few years. On July 12, 2014 seven infants dies, with an age between 0–28 days. The same hospital has experienced a death toll of 16 infants in January 2014 and another 16 on May 2013. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the chief secretary, Government of West Bengal and the district magistrate, Malda, and asked reports in the matter. On April 2012, another 11 infants died in two days and another 37 infants in December 2012. In spite of having several media reports and criticism, there is no change of the situation. According to the hospital authorities, babies had complications of low birth weight and varying degrees of breathing trouble Considering the dearth of Medical Professionals in West Bengal with the Doctor:Population ratio of 1:2600 Government of West Bengal decided to start a new Medical College of 100 MBBS student capacity, to cater specially to the population of rural Bengal, in a strategic location of Malda District which is the gateway of North Bengal and can also cater to the adjacent Districts. After the inspection by MCI team in 2011, Letter of Permission was received by the Authority of Malda Medical College & Hospital on 30/06/2011. Classes for the First Year commenced on 01/08/2011.

The Institute came into existence after tireless efforts of a few visionaries and was tenderly nurtured by great protagonists of the time. A 300 bedded General Hospital was inaugurated by Shri Y.B. Chavan, the then Union Home Minister on October 22, 1968. It is still being used as the main hospital block. On May 22, 1972 the foundation stone of the first ever medical college, on the soil of Manipur, having the name of Manipur Medical College was laid by Shri B.K. Nehru, the then Governor of Manipur. The Medical College was established as a joint venture of the North Eastern States. On September 14, 1972, the name of the College was changed to Regional Medical College, Imphal. The College was later renamed as North Eastern Regional Medical College under the management of North Eastern Regional Medical College Society. From August, 1976, it was run under the Ministry of Home, Government of India and was the only medical college run by the Ministry of Home. Nearly 19 years later, the College was again renamed as Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and its management was taken over by NEC, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India from April 1, 1995. After exactly 12 years, on the historic day of April 1, 2007, the Institute was transferred to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
