Swami Rama Himalayan University is
a private state University located about 25 kilometers southeast of
Dehradun city and in close vicinity of Jolly Grant Airport, in north
Indian state of Uttarakhand. The university is named after revered
Indian Yogi Swami Rama. In April 2012, a proposal for establishing a
University was put before the Government of Uttarakhand by Himalayan
Institute Hospital Trust. In December 2012 Uttarakhand Legislative
Assembly passed the 'Himalayan University Bill, 2012' and in February
2013 it became a Act through the assent of Governor of Uttarakhand as
Himalayan University Act, 2012 (Uttarakhand Adhiniyam Sankhya 12 of 2013
. The first academic session of university was started from July 2013 .
Campus :
The
Swami Rama Himalayan University is being established with an objective
to provide for instruction, teaching, training and research in such
branches of study as the University deems appropriate including medical
sciences, dental sciences, nursing, pharmacy, paramedical and allied
health sciences, science, engineering & technology, biotechnology,
yoga sciences, management, rural development, humanities and other
branches of higher education.
Constituent institutes/colleges/schools : SRHU
is a private university and its academic activities are organized
through its four constituent colleges (faculties), which run different
undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG) and Doctoral degree programs. Four
schools of university are listed below :
- Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS ) :
HIMS offers courses in medical and paramedical studies. Undergraduate
courses include MBBS and postgraduate courses are MD in Anatomy,
Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology,
Community Medicine, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Skin (Dermatology,
Venereology & Leprosy), Radio Diagnosis, Anesthesiology , Pulmonary
Medicine and Radio-therapy
- Himalayan College of Nursing (HCN ) : Courses offered are Basic B.Sc. Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing
- Himalayan School of Engineering & Technology (HSET ) :
Courses offered are Bachelor of Computer Applications, Bachelor of
Technology in Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering,
Electronics & Communication Engineering etc .

Eligibility :
MBBS :
- The
candidate must have passed the 10+2, i.e. C.B.S.E./I.S.C/ Intermediate
board examination or its equivalent, after a period of 12 years of study
in one attempt, the last two years of such study, comprising of
Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology and English from a
recognized Board. The candidatemust have passed in the subjects of
Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually and
must have obtained : (i) A minimum of exact 60% (For SC/ST/OBC
candidates a minimum of exact 50%) marks in aggregate in Physics,
Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology, taken together. (ii) A minimum of
exact 50% (For SC/ST/OBC candidates a minimum of exact 40%) marks
separately in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology in the
qualifying examination.
- Candidates
who are appearing in the qualifying examination and whose results are
not available are also eligible to appear in the entrance examination.
However, they must submit the marks sheet on or before the date
specified in the information brochure, such candidates shall not be
eligible for admission to the M.B.B.S. course, if they do not fulfill
the eligibility criteria. If an applicant is inadvertently allowed to
take the PMEE inviolation of the admission requirements (eligibility
criteria), he/she cannot, at a later date claim that he/she meets the
eligibility criteria.
Admission Procedure:
- Every
year in the month of May, the University conducts the all India level
Pre Medical Entrance Examination (PMEE). A merit list is prepared based
on this examination. The candidates are called for counseling in the
month of June/July. The session starts from 1st September every year.
- The
information brochure is made available by the University sometime in
the month of January of the admission year. Information regarding the
availability of the brochure is widely publicized through national
newspapers.
Age :
A
candidate who has completed at least 17 years of age as of 31st
December of the year of admission is eligible. The Upper Age Limit shall
be 25 years as on 31st December of the year of admission. Only Date of
Birth recorded in the High School / I.C.S.E. or its equivalent
certificate will be accepted.
Training & Placement :
- A
major attention is given to placement-related activities at SRHU to
ensure that all successful post graduates and graduates receive suitable
placements. In this context, the University is uniquely placed for
leverage on an industry network, developed over its period of time.
- Over
the past several years, a strong placement network has been developed
with Healthcare Organizations, Engineering and technical giants,
blue-chip companies in Production, Services, engineering, financial
services, information technology, Medical Sciences and other sectors. As
a part of its placement efforts, placement teams visit potential
employers and consultants and appraise them of the level of knowledge
and practical application skills acquired by the graduates in their
respective areas of specialization. The profiles of the students seeking
placement assistance are made available to the prospective employers.
Placement team meet individual batch of students and personality
development
- workshops
are organized as a part of the placement program. All the students are
provided guidance in career planning as they progress to higher levels
of the program. The entire placement exercise starts as early as the
start of the Last Semester, so as to give the student adequate exposure
and professional grooming time.
